Welcome from all at Dudley Carers Forum.

COVID 19 (Corona Virus)

This is a worrying time for carers and disabled loved ones. We will endeavour to keep you up to date with advice.

Today have launched a community hotline for the Black Country.

If you can offer support, or you are someone who is self – isolating and NEEDS support, you can call the number below.

Let’s work together like the amazing community we are

01384 465375

If you are over 70 or have more serious health conditions you should self- isolate for 12 weeks.

1.5m high risk people have been asked to self isolate for 12 weeks, because they are the most vulnerable.

They will be sent text messages or letters to advise them to stay home and not even go out for shopping.

The government plans to implement a food parcel delivery system to ensure that those self isolating will have enough food to get them through three months.

High Risk Group for Coronavirus is expected to include

Those who have had an organ transplant

Those who have certain specific cancers

Those who are undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy

Those who are having treatment for blood or bone cancer

Those who are having any cancer treatments that lower the immune system eg. protein kinase inhibitors

Those who have received a bone marrow or stem cell transplant in the last six months, or are still taking immunosuppressant drugs

Those who have severe respiratory conditions, including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe COPD

Those who have rare diseases and inborn errors of metabolism that significantly increase the risk of infections such as SCID homozygous sickle cell

Those who are taking immunosuppressant therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection

If you are not sure if you are considered a vulnerable person, you should contact your GP by phone.

If you are considered a vulnerable person you will receive a letter from the government. There will be a website and phone number to contact if you would like food parcels.

You will be asked about your dietary requirements and any medicines you need.

Local councils and supermarkets will work together along with pharmacies to deliver food parcels and prescriptions.

Parcels will be left on your doorstep, there will be no need for you to have physical contact with anybody.

For now the food parcels will be free, though this may change in the future.

You can register now to join the scheme by following this link https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

In view of this all Dudley Carers Forum meetings and activities are cancelled until further notice. I will prepare reports for the meetings as usual and post here and on our website.

New news is coming in every day please use the button for older updates.

I will let everyone know when we are up and running again. In the meantime the office remains open all hours unless I become ill. Anything I can help with or you just need a chat give me a call.

Kindest regards
